The Person Behind Technical Techniques

My Story

When you call, you get Dan. Not a help desk. Not a ticket system. Just me. I have been living and breathing technology for over 30 years and genuinely care about getting it right.

I grew up on Long Island, New York, and was the kid who built my first computer around age 8. I used to get called out of class in elementary school to fix a computer in another classroom, and spent the next 30-plus years as the unofficial tech support for my friends & family. That instinct never went away.

After graduating from West Virginia University in 2008 with a degree in Communications Studies, I spent six years in New York City working in email marketing, designing HTML/CSS email templates and coding landing pages for large-scale email campaigns reaching hundreds of thousands of subscribers. It was the early days of the industry, and I was building things at the cutting edge of what was possible at the time.

In 2014, I came out to Denver to catch a show at Red Rocks. The mountains, the city, the energy helped me decide to move west in 2015. I pivoted into IT full-time, starting with phone support for hospital workers across the Denver metro, then moved on-site to a top AmLaw 500 law firm in downtown Denver. From there I joined an MSP supporting law firms all across the country and around the world.

Over the years my focus shifted from support to implementation and architecture. I have led cloud migrations for law firms moving entire infrastructures out of the server closet, designed enterprise architecture, built out Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environments, implemented disaster recovery and backup strategies, and written programs to automate security audits for compliance. I have served as the highest escalation point on some of the toughest problems that came up.

I started Technical Techniques because I kept seeing the same problems play out. Businesses paying for “solutions” that created more problems than they solved. Homeowners overwhelmed by technology that should have been making their lives easier. Everyone frustrated by inadequate support. Every project I take on starts with listening. I work to understand what you actually need, explain things in plain English, document everything I do, and make sure you know how to reach me when you need help.

Technical Techniques is how I bring that expertise and compassion to homes and small businesses who deserve the same level of care and attention, without the enterprise price tag.

When I am not working, you will find me on the slopes, playing guitar at open jams around Denver, or tinkering in my home lab.
